 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the massage hurt?

Answer

Everyone is different. We aim for the "hurts so good" feeling which achieves pain relief in the most effective way possible. Please keep your therapist informed if the pressure is too much or too little. A massage should leave you feeling better than before the appointment. Our training and experience allows us to provide you with the comfort and relief to get your body working for you again.

Q: What if I fall asleep?

Answer

This happens more than you think and we consider it a compliment! We aim to create a relaxing experience for you, so it’s completely normal to have a little snooze during your massage.

Q: Will I be covered during the session?

Answer

Yes, of course. We aim to ensure comfortability, so you will remain covered during the session. With your consent, only the area being worked will be exposed, with the utmost appropriate and professional care.

Q: Should I talk during the massage?

Answer

It is whatever you are comfortable with! We enjoy a good conversation, but if you prefer to enjoy a peaceful massage in silence that is wonderful too. Either way, we will do our part to make it a comfortable experience.

Q: What type of massage should I book?

Answer

Every massage is tailored to your specific needs. For more relaxing, light pressure massages, we recommend our Swedish massage. If you're looking for a massage that can work out knots and chronic aches and pains, we recommend our deep tissue massage. We can always do a little of both to give you a relaxing massage, while also working out some of that tension! If you're still unsure, ask your therapist at your next appointment, they will know what to do!

Q: Why am I sore after a massage?

Answer

Receiving massages is very similar to exercise for our muscles. If you haven't had a massage before, or you're receiving a deep tissue massage, our muscles can get worked in ways that they are not used to. Small muscle fibers get microscopically torn when pressure is applied. This is actually a good thing, as it allows for the muscle to receive more blood flow and create new, healthy tissue to repair those muscles. The "tearing" of the muscles is what can cause soreness the next day(s) after a massage.

Q: What should I do to prep for a massage?

Answer

Make sure you are hydrated, and eat a good meal 1-2 hours before your massage. We want to make sure you have water and food in your system, so that you can feel good during, and after your massage. Massages increase blood and lymph ciruclation, which can have a big impact on blood sugar levels and overall well being. Please make sure you are not feeling sick, or have big migraines before your massage, as it can often make it worse.

Q: What should I do after a massage?

Answer

Listen to your massage therapist's recommendations, as everyone has different things to work on after a massage. A general guideline that everyone can follow is to drink plenty of water, stretch, rest, and most importantly, book your next massage. Regularly scheduled massages have proven to be the most effective for reducing tension, chronic aches and pains and maintaining overall muscle health.
